MINIMALISM

21.04.2013

Lately I haven’t had any new big projects, but rather smaller ones that I need to quickly come up with fast. I have noticed that some of these are actually quite minimalistic, and I think that might be because I haven’t spent months on them, over thinking them to the point where I just keep adding random stuff because I have a last minute freak out!

QUOTE

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

Antoine De Saint Exupery

But I have not achieved perfection with these small experiments – because I have definitely not put enough time and thought into them ;) De Saint Exupery is correct, less is more, and when you have put your all into a project, and thought hard about it, you will realise so much that can be taken away. That is why, once there is no more to take away, it has achieved “perfection”. I put the “” because I do not necessarily believe in anything being perfect, but I agree that you can make something amazing if you do not over crowd it, so think next time what you can take away, not what you can add! :)

Let’s hope you all get this reference! I think minimalism becomes very strong when you use an iconic image, because then a lot of people will immediately relate to it and it has become a funny fashion to design down on famous icons. However, minimalism can also just be your own style and design, where you simply break down your original idea and make it more minimalistic!
